The total is split three ways so you can see what is sourced: published fares, attraction admission and bus passes; the hotel and food figures you type; and the taxes on those (GST 5%, hotel PST 8% and the area’s hotel tax). Hotel, food and car costs start empty because nobody publishes your numbers, and nothing is invented. Switch to US dollars at the Bank of Canada rate.

What the calculator adds up
- Getting here: the published fare for your party and the route you choose, doubled for a return. Choose where you start and whether you bring a car; the options are the same as on the getting to Victoria planner.
- Places: tick the places you will pay to enter. Each is priced from its operator’s own price list.
- Buses: days of buses at BC Transit’s DayPASS price per adult.
- Your figures: hotel rate, rooms, food per person per day, car rental, fuel and parking, and anything else.
- Taxes: the hotel’s GST, PST and MRDT, and GST on food, worked out with the same rates as the BC sales tax calculator.
Reading the result
The total is shown with a per-person and per-day figure, and a breakdown by source. If a fare is missing for your party the line is left out with a note, not guessed. Prices change: each route and place page shows when its figures were checked.
Frequently asked questions
Where do the fares and admissions come from?
From the operators’ own pages, as recorded on the route and place pages with the date checked: BC Ferries, the Coho, the Victoria Clipper and attraction admissions. Where an operator does not say whether tax is included, no tax is added to the figure.
Why are hotel and food empty?
No official source publishes what your hotel will cost or what you will eat. Type your own rate and food budget; the calculator then adds the taxes that apply. Anything left blank is left out of the total.
What tax goes on a hotel?
GST of 5% (CRA), PST of 8% on short-term accommodation (BC Government), and the Municipal and Regional District Tax for the area: 3% in the City of Victoria, 2% in Saanich and Oak Bay according to BC Laws, which shows a repeal date of 1 January 2027 for Victoria’s. Each is worked out on the pre-tax room price.
Is there tax on food?
Restaurant meals carry GST at 5% and no PST (liquor carries 10% PST). If your food figure already includes tax, tick the box and none is added. The tip is worked out on the pre-tax food total.
How are children priced?
Ferry fares follow each operator’s child age band. Attraction admission uses the price row that covers a child of eight, and leaves children out with a note when the operator lists no such row. Bus passes are priced for adults only.
