Victoria itinerary planner: build 1 to 5 days

Pick how many days you have, your pace and what you like. The planner takes the places nearest to where you are staying until your days are full, puts them in the shortest route, and cuts them into days, with the travel time to each. Move stops with the arrows, switch to indoor-only for rain, and copy a link or print it. It is a rule, not a recommendation.

Plan your days in Victoria

What are you interested in? (none ticked means everything)

The map numbers your stops in order across the days.

How it picks: the places nearest to where you are staying first, each counted as its time to see (the operator’s figure, else 45 minutes, our estimate) plus the trip there and back, until your days are full; then the shortest route, cut into days. It is a rule, not a recommendation. Travel times are typical, not live. Check each place’s page for tickets and hours.

How the plan is built

The planner works from the same 29 places as the things to do page and the same offline travel-time matrix as the car checker. With a car, it uses drive times; without one, the quicker of walking and the typical weekday bus. Pace sets the length of a day: relaxed is about five hours of travelling and visiting, moderate seven, full nine. These are estimates you can change.

Interests

The interest groups are our own grouping of the places: history and old buildings, gardens, museums and galleries, parks and nature, places whose own pages list family features, and places whose own pages list no fee. A place can sit in more than one group. Choose none and every place is a candidate.

Check before you go

Opening days and prices come from each operator and change. Each stop links to its page with the date we checked it. For a cruise port day, use the cruise port planner, which works backwards from your all-aboard time.

Frequently asked questions

How does it choose places?

By a stated rule: places that match your interests, nearest to where you are staying first, each counted as its time to see (the operator’s figure, else 45 minutes, our estimate) plus the trip there and back, until your days are full. Then it finds the shortest route and cuts it into days. Nothing is ranked or called the best.

How many days do I need?

Try one, two and three days and see what each holds. Our travel-time matrix puts the downtown sights within a walk or short bus ride of each other, and places such as Butchart Gardens are about a 30 to 35 minute drive out.

What if it rains?

Tick “Rainy-day plan” to keep only indoor places, or read the list of indoor places near where you are staying under any plan.

Does it know which days places are closed?

If you enter your first day, it checks each stop against that place’s own published hours for the date and flags a closed day or hours that are not confirmed. Craigdarroch Castle, for example, is closed on Monday and Tuesday. Places that publish no hours are marked as such.

Can I share or print the plan?

Yes. “Copy a link” stores your settings and your stops in the address, and “Print” gives a clean page without the map and menus.
