Camosun: Lansdowne Student Housing Project

Living off campus

Camosun says most of its students rent an apartment, condo, basement suite or room in a shared house. Neither school publishes an average off-campus rent. Camosun describes the range as “$900 to over $2,000 per month”, a general statement from the college, not a measured figure. UVic points renters to Places4Students.com and lists other resources, and both schools say they do not inspect or approve any landlord or unit.

What all tenants paid, from CMHC (not student rents)

1 bedroom$1,625$1,927
2 bedroom$2,120$2,426

These are CMHC’s figures for surveyed private apartments, not specific to students. Sharing a place splits the rent. Getting to campus

BC Transit says the U-PASS, a student transit pass for Victoria Regional Transit, is included in tuition and works with the Umo app; the price depends on your school. Youth and post-secondary fares are on BC Transit’s fares page. The cost of living calculator has a bus line for your own costs.

Residence at UVic

UVic guarantees a residence room to qualifying first-year students who apply by the deadlines and runs separate lotteries for upper-year undergraduates and graduate students. On-campus residence is at the Gordon Head campus, so students at the West Shore campus should think about the commute. Dates and fees are copied from UVic’s own pages and change each year; check them before you apply.

Camosun College

Camosun has no residence at present. Most of its students rent. A residence is under construction on the Lansdowne campus and the college says it will be open to students from both campuses; no rates or application dates are published yet.

Renting off campus

Neither school publishes an average off-campus rent, so none is given here beyond CMHC’s figures for all tenants. For areas, deposits and BC’s rules, see rent in Victoria. Read the rental scam checklist before you send money, and use the rent affordability calculator and cost of living calculator to see what a rent takes of your income.

Frequently asked questions

When do UVic residence applications open and close?

For Fall 2027 the first-year and deferral application opens on October 5, 2026 (the first Monday in October) with a February 15 deadline, and first-year guarantee students must also apply to UVic by January 31. The undergraduate and graduate lotteries close on May 15. Later applications go on a waitlist.

How much does UVic residence cost?

Does Camosun College have student residences?

Not yet. The college says it currently has no on-campus residences or dormitories. Construction has begun on a six-storey, 429-bed building on the Lansdowne campus, expected to complete in the 2028/29 academic year, open to students from both campuses. Its price is not published.
